If you really want to find out how Sajata-E was born we must first go back to February of 1977 when a women by the name of Jan Epper went into labor in an alley on a cold winter morning. Jan Epper was in a lot of pain and she was unable to walk to the payphone just ten feet away from her. As the pains began to amplify Jan began to grow more concerned about the birth at hand, but she was a trooper and she was not going to allow this birth to control her. As the pain of labor grew closer Jan knew she had to push this baby out so she took off her coat and placed it beneath her. Every second the pains grew worse so Jan decided to push. As Jan began to push she felt that something was wrong but she kept going until "it" finally came out. What came out of Jan that day was so horrible, so terrible, that she almost fainted by the near sight of "it". Jan had unknowingly laid a blue egg. She didn't know what to do because after all people are not supposed to lay eggs so she decided to dump it in the trash and never speak of that horrible day ever again... Just Kidding! Sajata-E ( sajata epps ) is actually a clothing designer who was born and raised in Bronx, NY. Growing up in the 80's was very hard for Sajata because hip hop was rapidly becoming a culture instead of a passing trend. Everyone wore the same clothing, listen to the same music, and spoke the same language. It was as if some alien life force came down and turned everyone into mindless Rap clones. No one ever dared to dress a bit differently and that affected retail stores in a big way. Clothing stores began to cater to the hip hop community, which was great for everyone else but not for Sajata because she wanted something different. Something original! At the age of 7 Sajata learned how to crochet, at 9 she began to knit. By the age of 12 she started to sew, and finally at the age of 19 she went to college so she could perfect her art. Sajata now designs her own funky clothing line and lends her talents to many different worthy non-profit charities. She also currently runs a small program called COSTUMES FOR KIDS, a program that brings art and design to inner city children within the tri-state area. The rest of the story is a bunch of boring crap that no one really wants to hear about because let's face it there is such a thing as too much information. A Note By Sajata-E
Artistic InspirationI get most of my inspiration from my mother's closet and different New York vintage clothing stores. Most of the clothing I preferred buying were vintage. I would have to take them home and tailor them to fit or take them apart and remake them in another fabric because most of the clothing made in the 50's, 60's, and 70's were made of itchy fibers. I personally feel clothing should reflect your personality instead of reflecting the image society decides to create for you. Young women have a hard enough time trying to figure out who they are without their social clicks and media defining who they are by what they wear. My clothing is a pure figment of my insane imagination. I buy perfect dark denim and destroy it by aging parts of it with bleach and thin dripping those parts in tiny studs shaped as stars. All of my clothes are hand made pieces of wearable art I use to express myself.
OK, so you do need to know all of the boring details of SAJATA-E’s work life. I must warn you it is long and tiresome. Still not convinced, fine have it your way. SAJATA-E is 28 years old and is fully skilled in the following:
